Company

Quiet by default.
Loud when it matters.

Root runs the point of sale, the bookings, the inventory, and the books for service businesses of every kind. It stays out of the way on a normal shift and surfaces the one thing that needs you when a shift goes sideways.

Who we build for

Operators.

We build for operators. The people who show up early and stay late and care whether the line moves, not whether the dashboard has gradients.

That ranges further than most software admits. From a single café on one counter to a multi-location group running a restaurant, a spa, and a retail floor on one set of books, and many other kinds of business besides. Same software, different configuration.

What we believe

Five things, held firmly.

The default state is quiet.

The action state is loud. When nothing needs you, the software gets out of the way. When something does, it makes sure you know.

Self-serve is non-negotiable.

You should never call a dealer to change a price or 86 an item. Every setting you need to run the day belongs to you, not to a support queue.

One platform, many surfaces.

Verticals are configurations, not separate products. A fine-dining restaurant and a fitness studio run on the same database and the same codebase, set up differently. We don't fork the product per industry.

Speed is a feature.

Sub-100ms on the floor is the spec, not an aspiration. The pace of the software should match the pace of a busy room, not slow it down.

The folio is king.

Every charge posts to one place. A drink at the bar, a spa booking, a room night, a retail purchase, all land on a single account that updates the customer and the books at once.

What we are not

Just as important.

Not a point-of-saleThat's one surface of one module
Not enterprise softwareNo six-month implementation, no $400k statement of work
Not consumer-cuteThis is a tool for running a business, not an app to delight a feed
Not tech-broNo emoji, no hype, no animation that doesn't earn its place

What we reject

The patterns this
industry keeps repeating.

Most operators have lived through every one of these. Root is built the opposite way, on purpose.

Closed and rigid.

Legacy suites force one way of working and tie the business to a single vendor's stack. Root is web-based and runs on PCs, tablets, and touchscreens, and bends to how the room actually operates.

Bait-and-switch billing.

A low headline price, then surprise processing-rate hikes once you depend on it. Root's pricing is the price, stated plainly and held.

Catalog tools that get worse.

Menu and pricing editors that take more clicks every release, not fewer. Changing a price should stay a two-second job, forever.

One product, three names.

The same software sold under different brands with different features and different prices. Root is one product, the same for everyone.

Entering the menu twice.

Online ordering that demands a second copy of the catalog, drifting out of sync the moment you change one. In Root there is one menu, everywhere.

Support that dead-ends.

Help that loops you through tiers and tickets to nowhere. We'd rather build a product that needs less support, then answer the rest like people.

How we sound

The voice, on purpose.

Clear over cleverSay the thing, plainly
Confident, not chipperSure of the work, no cheerleading
Specific over abstractReal numbers, real situations
Calm under loadThe tone doesn't change when the room is full
Honest about limitsWhat it does, and what it doesn't, yet
